I joined Saunders & Co in 2019 and qualified as a lawyer in the same year. I am based in the city office, however, I also frequently meet with clients in the Ferrymead and Wigram branches.
I regularly appear in the District and Family Courts and specialise in areas including care of children issues, guardianship, family violence and protection orders, division of relationship property, paternity and dissolution of marriage matters. I also have involvement with Oranga Tamariki proceedings and assist with other civil and criminal matters including restraining orders, traffic offences and sentencing appearances.
The legal process can often be time-consuming and emotionally-draining, particularly in the context of family matters. I aim to find practical methods and solutions for clients through placing emphasis on the need to exhaust all dispute-resolution options – whether that be through negotiation or forms of mediation – before having to revert to filing court proceedings, which can often be a costly and an uncertain step to take.
I aim to not only provide clear and logical advice on the legal process, but also to make sure that a client’s views are made clear and that they are properly supported along the way. It can often be a very distressing time and navigating mediation or court proceedings can be a test of resilience, meaning sight of what is important can at times be easily lost.
I look to assist clients with laying the groundwork to resolve those issues while providing them with a suitable direction forward.
I am also a member of the Canterbury-Westland Young Lawyers Committee and Community Law Canterbury where I regularly volunteer at the free drop-in legal advice clinics.
