Kiwi farming innovation shines
The National Agricultural Fieldays is a celebration of New Zealand’s farming success, and it should come as no surprise this includes innovation and invention in agriculture. Kiwis are continually finding new ways to farm smarter.
The winners of this year’s Innovation Awards have developed systems for monitoring kiwifruit vines, new products from deer’s milk and ginseng, new apps, and forage to reduce nitrogen leaching for dairy, which should be great to support farmers’ work to improve our waterways.
Each of these new systems has its own specific Intellectual Property protection strategy – from patents for new technology, product branding and trade secrets, copyright for software, or plant variety protections.
It’s not just the “tech sector” that produces great ideas – this week we celebrate New Zealand’s proud heritage of farming excellence, and look forward to its growth in the future.
